University of Zagreb Faculty of Geodesy
www.geof.unizg.hrOverview
The Faculty of Geodesy, University of Zagreb, is the only Croatian higher education institution dedicated to geodesy and geoinformatics and one of the country’s most established academic actors in remote sensing, GIS, and spatial data analysis. The faculty employs 95 staff members and serves as both a teaching and research institution with strong participation in national, European, and ESA-funded projects. Its researchers work across technical, biotechnical, natural, and interdisciplinary application areas, with a strong focus on transforming Earth observation and spatial data into useful scientific and operational outputs. Within the space domain, the faculty contributes through two particularly important lines of work. One research stream focuses on solar observation and heliophysics, while another focuses on Earth monitoring through algorithm development and applied EO services for urbanization, forests, agriculture, biodiversity, and climate-related monitoring. The faculty’s distinctive role in the Croatian space ecosystem lies in combining academic excellence, operational remote sensing capabilities, and collaboration with industry partners.
Core Competencies
Remote sensing algorithm development, GIS analysis, Earth observation applications, solar observation, urbanization monitoring, forest health monitoring, agricultural monitoring, land suitability analysis, climate impact assessment, geospatial processing
Space Experience
The Faculty of Geodesy has extensive ESA and space-related experience as both contractor and subcontractor. In Earth observation, it has led or participated in projects such as MyGreenYard, RS4RISK, RS4EST, ESANATURA, CropSuit, and the MultiOne-led agricultural landscape monitoring project. In solar and heliophysics research, the faculty leads projects such as draping@SolO, ESA-CBP, ForbMod2, and the earlier ForbMod project. This combination makes the faculty one of Croatia’s rare institutions with substantial experience in both Earth observation and solar-space science.
Collaboration Needs
The Faculty of Geodesy is seeking collaboration with industry partners, private companies, research institutes, faculties, and small companies from technical, biotechnical, natural, and related sciences that want to apply remote sensing, Earth observation, GIS, and broader space technologies in their business, research, or operational activities.
