Overview

BlueDataB d.o.o. is a Croatian SME specialized in advanced data-driven solutions for aquaculture. The company’s work began with underwater video analysis and computer vision for fish farms, including applications such as fish counting, fish biometry, hole detection in nets, biofouling monitoring, mortality detection, and inspection support. Over time, BlueDataB expanded from vision-based analytics into broader environmental intelligence, combining operational farm data with satellite-based Earth observation to support smarter decision-making in aquaculture. The company is now evolving toward a digital twin approach for fish farming, integrating satellite data, in-situ measurements, analytics, visualization, and operational alerts into a single decision-support environment. Its mission is to turn satellite and in-situ data into actionable insights for sustainability and resilience in aquaculture. BlueDataB’s distinctive position in the Croatian ecosystem lies in connecting aquaculture domain knowledge, computer vision, big data analytics, custom hardware development, and Earth observation into practical services for real operational users.

Space Experience

BlueDataB has participated in an ESA-funded project focused on detecting and monitoring harmful algal blooms for aquaculture applications. In this work, the company processes Sentinel-2 and Sentinel-3 data, including acquisition, pre-processing, analysis, and custom algorithm development for chlorophyll detection and related indicators. The project combines satellite observations with in-situ measurements from fish farms to improve accuracy and operational relevance. BlueDataB also develops visualization and reporting layers, including maps, dashboards, thresholds, and automated alerts that help aquaculture operators respond to environmental risks.

Collaboration Needs

BlueDataB is seeking collaboration with Earth observation data and technology providers, research institutions in oceanography, marine biology and water quality, aquaculture companies willing to share in-situ data for validation, and IT or cloud providers that can support scalable storage and near-real-time processing. The company is particularly interested in partnerships that help scale its harmful algal bloom monitoring and digital twin services from pilot stage to operational deployment.
